well, I'd need something anyway these looks aren't COMPLETELY effortless
so you think the Old Salt had something to do with the Vast or the Buried, was it? Makes me wonder about one of the others I met. He didn't seem so bad. Kind, even, all things considered.
[There's a part of Jon that wants to correct the man. From what he's seen? No. No, the Old Salt was not a kind thing. But on the other hand, hasn't he equivocated to himself about the Beholding? At least it's not the Corruption, after all.]
I expect I could classify some of them if you have stories you'd be willing to share about them?
The stories are hazy. It's hard to remember Arcadia, I don't know why but that's how it is.
Jamie rubs his neck as he tries to remember. Ever since Jon's taken statements, he remembers his nightmares... better. But it's mostly Muirgheas's realm he remembers.]
there was one that came around after Jack Nimble died. well, after he was murdered. we think it was Sam that summoned it, which is... you don't do that. it's a betrayal beyond anything to bring one of Them. they called her the Shrike, but I don't know if that was a proper title or just something changelings used
she hunted changelings and mortals alike, whatever she could get her hands on. she... put them on thorns, in the Hedge. I think she... ate them, after they died.
Elements of the Hunt and the Slaughter, certainly. Those are always a bit hard to tease apart. Would you say she took more pleasure in the chase or the killing??
I'm not really sure She seemed to like the hunt but from what I heard she took some joy or whatever shoving people on spikes and waiting for them to ripen.
sorry
the Old Man didn't really hunt me, did you know that?
[He knows that Jon - the Archivist - is in all his nightmares now. Jamie knows he's there even if he can't always see him.]
I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time when he came to collect Cade, Quick, and Sam.
Some part of the Corruption in there, perhaps. It's fine, Jamie. For as horrible as all of this is, it's familiar enough that it doesn't bother me as much as it probably ought to.
But... I'm sorry for how that happened. Sometimes that's just the way of it. It's how I became the Archivist. I picked up the wrong book when I was child and went to work for the wrong place. Just bad luck.
Don't suppose a bouquet and an apology card would do much, would it? I really didn't mean to. Or, I did, but. You know what it's like to get... carried away by something.

Wolf helps with that?

During that weird dream-thing last year he saw that particular memory play out.
[It occurs to him, briefly, that Jon may not have heard that one.]
He'll sit with me if I need company. Noah and Victor do too sometimes.
Otherwise it's just showers for me.

At least you have a way to keep clean?
That's something.
[That's also probably more callous than it needs to be, but what else can he really say?]

any of it?

I don't know if I could have changed anything, though.
I've always been far too curious.

a few human horrors would have to be changed, first
and i don't regret quick and cade
they're the closet thing to family i have

The fate we'd always choose, even knowing better.

[he's smiling, though. maybe it's sad, but it's still a smile. he's very fond of Jon.]
I want to see you again sometime soon. Maybe tea or coffee or something? Whatever you like.

In a little bit.
Martin wasn't thrilled to hear you stole my heart.
A little distance for a bit might settle his mind.

I am sorry, Jon.
I can't remember now if I actually apologized.
But now you have it in writing.

I'll talk to you later.
