Name: Jamie Door: Door pass - submissive Canon: Changeling: The Lost - OC Canon Point: he comes to Duplicity from a freehold in Charlottesville, Virginia, right after he helps to trap Sam, his former lover, and hands him over to the Summer Court for trial Age: unknown, looks to be late teens/early twenties Appearance: Lithe, elegant, graceful; here History: Info about his world here Jamie is a Changeling: he was once human and was captured by the fae, and kept in Arcadia for an unknown period of time as a servant. His time in Arcadia fundamentally changed him, and when he manages to get back to the human world, he is no longer human himself. Capable of performing magic and seeming otherworldly without his mein in place, Jamie is now and forever will be somewhere between human and fae. His real history is something like this: alone and unloved, he caught the eye of one of the True Fae, called Muirgheas, and was swept away one night while he slept. He woke in luxury, but the illusion quickly faded. Every human that enters Arcadia must have some of their humanity taken from them, one way or another. None of the changelings know why - they assume it's to avoid going mad, but none of them know if it actually works. Sometimes the process is agony; sometimes it's just forgetting. For Jamie, it became both. He was a favored companion, talented enough to keep the Old Man entertained and clever enough to remember little pieces of his past life. After time untold, Jamie took part in a plot to escape. He'd become a favorite of their master and he was the one that helped to slit his throat. It might not kill the Old Man, but it gave them time to run. Along with several other changelings, he escaped in a mad, wild dash through the Hedge and back into the mortal world - the real world. Returning to the world years after he left it was a shock at first, his only chance at survival was to join a changeling freehold: a safe place for people like him to avoid the True Fae. Changelings have power, after all, especially in groups. Cadeus, Quick, and Sam - changelings that escaped with him - convince him to stay in the freehold for safety and for familiarity. Jamie's shining and warm personality led him to the Spring Court. He has spent the last several years just trying to get by with all the drama of his new world while also avoiding the attention of the Fae. Personality: Jamie is indulgent: he pursues every action with elegant grace and he refuses to neglect his own pleasure. He's very serious about seeing his own desires met, to the point where some might accuse him of narcissism. He has a very good reason to pursue his own interests, and that pursuit also requires an iron will and self-control that rivals any recovering addict. He will forever try to recreate what he thought he knew in Arcadia, or else try to find reasons to stay in the real world. As a member of the Spring Court, Jamie is fond of wild parties, hedonistic gatherings, and all around a good-time-guy. This includes a penchant for indulging in alcohol and drugs, in fine clothes and frequent company. Anything to keep the darkness at bay. He lives in the moment, but always finds himself looking behind, tethered to a past that he remembers only in flashes of pain and ecstasy. He knows his time in Arcadia changed him, he just doesn't remember how. He wants desperately to deny that it's changed him at all. But it's not all selfish games: Jamie is devoted to helping others find and meet their desires as well. He is dutiful and loyal to those that earn it: he rescues Quick and Cade from a trap in the Hedge and unfailingly protects them; they are some of his only real friends and he will go to the ends of the earth for those he is close to. He almost gave his heart - his whole heart - to Sam, thinking it would keep his lover close and whole. At times Jamie is blinded by his need to be cherished. The downside of any relationship with Jamie is that he is also fickle: he can be cold, vicious, and prone to toying with others, even with those he cares for. Jamie has the tendency to collect strong personalities - and bodies - to keep him safe, rarely physically fighting his own battles and instead depending on his wiles and wits to get by. He knows what he's worth and he will use it to get what he wants. He keeps Cadeus wrapped around his fingers - he's fond of the man but he als knows how valuable his protection is and he wouldn't want to compromise their arrangement by letting Cade fall out of love with him. He toys with Quick's affection, keeping him close when he wants him and ignoring him when he doesn't. Beneath it all is a lost soul looking for love, and Jamie has it to give in spades, when he's in the mood. He lavishes his companions with affection and tenderness, most of it genuine. He wants only to belong somewhere, to find a home that he will never see again. Powers and Abilities: Changelings, having been touched by and made part of Faerie, are able to learn clauses of the Contracts that give Fae their power, giving them many supernatural/magical abilities. As a member of the Spring Court, Jamie has learned ways to manipulate and evoke feelings of desires in others. He can can pass luck - good or bad - onto people of his choosing. Sometimes it's easier to curse than bless: the individual affected by Fickle Fate performs poorly in whatever task they set themselves to; however, someone touched with Favored Fate finds themselves experiencing favorable luck. If Jamie likes you enough, he could even guarantee success (and, by the same token, failure) in a future endeavor. By nature of what he is, Jamie has a rather seductive fragrance. Not necessarily an aphro, but people will generally notice it and like it. Inventory: a compact mirror, a folding knife, a necklace with a glass bauble Samples: TDM - 2 log + 1 network |
Personality revision
As a member of the Spring Court, Jamie is fond of wild parties, hedonistic gatherings, and all around a good-time-guy.
He feels isolated among his changeling companions: as one of the Fairest, he looks the most like their Fae captors and is often the subject of distrust. So he finds ways to make people like him: sweet smiles and promises he doesn't intend to keep, affection, luck. He can be whatever they want, whenever they want. Maybe if the mask is smiling, he'll start to feel it inside.
The worst part is that he doesn't even know why he does it - more often than not, when someone ends up breaking with him because their feelings are hurt, Jamie simply doesn't understand what he's done wrong. He covers up the fear of loss with more coldness, more distance, and throws himself back into his indulgences. Milo the vampire is only too happy to give him jewelry and sweet nothings, but Jamie keeps him at arm's length, not really wanting to give him anything in return.
Beneath it all is a lost soul looking for love, and Jamie has it to give in spades, when he's in the mood. He lavishes his companions with affection and tenderness, most of it genuine. He wants only to belong somewhere, to find a home that he will never see again.
Personality revision - bullet points
Manipulative: Jamie can make himself into what people want - whatever they want - and he's willing to sacrifice himself to get what he needs. As one of the Fairest, he knows how to manipulate desire, and he is willing to adjust his appearance and his personality through magic and skillful acting. He'll play the companion, the whore, the brat, the saint and he'll do it without ever showing his hand. Jamie's talent is making people believe that he's genuine, whatever he's offering. He convinces Milo the vampire that he'll run off to Europe with him, only to disappear a week later; he keeps Cade wrapped around his elegant fingers because being without him is something Jamie can't bear; he leads Delaney along to get information about Sam's new, dark plans when he realizes the darkling is his ex-lover's right hand man. Jamie goes so far as to coax another changeling, Gee, into a romantic relationship with Delaney just to keep the darkling close and under someone's thrall, just in case he'll be useful again the future. Part of it is that, in the moment, he really does believe what he's saying. Of course he loves you, of course he'll stay with you forever, of course you're his one and only. Of course. But when the moment passes and he has what he wants, will he still care? Hard to say. Maybe if he thinks he'll need you again, which leads him to be...
Fickle: There's never enough and Jamie can't bring himself to commit to just one cause or just one person, constantly moving between relationships and people depending on what he needs or wants in the moment. When he wants you, he wants you; when he doesn't, he'll disappear. He can be cold, vicious, and prone to toying with others, even with those he cares for. The worst part is that he doesn't even know why he does it - more often than not, when someone ends up breaking with him because their feelings are hurt, Jamie simply doesn't understand what he's done wrong. He covers up the fear of loss with more coldness, more distance, and throws himself back into his indulgences, back into the next pair of arms open to him. Jamie has the tendency to collect strong personalities - and bodies - to keep him safe, rarely physically fighting his own battles and instead depending on his wiles and wits to get by. He knows what he's worth and he will use it to get what he wants. He keeps Cadeus wrapped around his fingers - he's fond of the man but he also knows how valuable his protection is and he wouldn't want to compromise their arrangement by letting Cade fall out of love with him. His unwillingness to give Sam his heart (just in case he needs it for himself) is at odds with how much he says he loves the brewer. He toys with Quick's affection, keeping him close when he wants him and ignoring him when he doesn't. Milo the vampire is only too happy to give him jewelry and sweet nothings, but Jamie keeps him at arm's length, not really wanting to give him anything in return.
Devoted: But it's not all selfish games: Jamie is devoted to helping others find and meet their desires as well. He is dutiful and loyal to those that earn it: he rescues Quick and Cade from a trap in the Hedge and risks his own safety and freedom to do it. They are some of his only real friends and he will go to the ends of the earth for those he is close to. He unfailingly helps to protect the other changelings in the freehold as he gains power. He almost gives his heart - his whole heart - to Sam, thinking it would keep his lover close and whole. At times Jamie is blinded by his need to be cherished. No matter what happens, he keeps turning back to his closest relationships, nurturing them like a garden and hoping something real will take root and grow.
Loving: Beneath it all is a lost soul looking for love, and Jamie has it to give in spades, when he's in the mood. He lavishes his companions with affection and tenderness, most of it genuine. He wants only to belong somewhere, to find a home that he will never see again. Jamie can be very generous and very genuine in his affection - perhaps something that lingers from his human life. He cares enough to learn what people truly want and like and need; he gives gifts that he hopes will make other people happy. Despite being fickle, cold, and manipulative, he's managed to keep a small circle of true friends that see something in him worth caring for. Jamie rewards their patience and their tenderness in abundance, allowing himself to be more open and vulnerable when he feels safe.
