He came to court as part of a noblewoman's entourage, along with a gaggle of other women. Dressed as he is, he's just another pretty face in a crowd of silk and brocade. He's been dressing as a woman for about as long as he's been in this particular noble's service, and he doesn't mind. If anything, it opens more doors and helps him to play the game with a few cards up his sleeve.
It's difficult not to notice the Chevalier de Lorraine. Jamie's been watching him since he came into the salon while hovering near his mistress with a small coterie of her other ladies. He knows the reputation of the Chevalier and, for the first time in a while, wishes he was dressed in a more masculine fashion. It would certainly make a few things more... obvious. But he's seen the Chevalier talk to women - plenty of them in fact - and Jamie knows there are rumors about him at Versailles already. Rumors of a boy in the marquise's retinue dressed as a woman. Perhaps to carry on an affair behind her husband's back, or maybe just because he's pretty and it amuses her.
So he makes it a point to meet the Chevalier's gaze whenever it drifts his way, and after locking eyes a few times, he drifts away from the marquise and her ladies in a subtle invitation for conversation.
